Once again Richmond Nomads find themselves on the first pitch at NPL; with heavy overnight rain the covers were still on protecting what looked like a well prepared flat pitch. Wibbandune’s Skipper, Ray and I assessed the pitch and agreed a 35 over match, 7 overs per bowler that they could bat first.
Wibbandune were slow to start thanks to the opening partnership of Mahesh and Flame. Their caution lead to a slow run rate and the fact they simply could not get flame away who ended his 7 over stint with 1 wicket for 13 runs. Mahesh bowled 7 overs 0 wickets for 41 runs. Next pair to bowl were L’tle Rich and Argy Bhaji who I think has been practicing; Roy returned figures of 7 overs 0 wickets for 26 runs and L’tle Rich bowled 7 overs 3 wickets for 31 runs although he should have had at least one more wicket but unfortunately his dad couldn’t hold on to a skier; he also ran out Faz their middle order batsman. Also bowled Shil who bowled 4 overs for 31 runs and Daisy who bowled 3 overs, 2 wickets for 30 runs. Wibbandune ended their 35 overs on a 180.
With Tuffers on holiday it was great to have the Rabbi back in the team at the top of the batting order. First wicket fell at 35 runs when Daisy tried to hook the first ball from a new bowler but it came onto him a little too fast and top edged it a simple catch at square leg. This brought Flame to the crease and quickly went on to score 22 before spooning a simple catch to mid-wicket. Arwel scored a brisk 20 with the Rabbi who was still going strong although he did start to wilt a little especially after Arwel made him run a 4. The Rabbi was eventually bowled out on 78, the top score of the day. Rusty and L’tle Rich saw us across the line with not-out scores of 21 and 7 respectively. The nomads won with 3 balls to spare.
Man of the Match – the Rabbi for his quiet brilliant 78 runs against some good bowling. Runner up Man of the Match – Flame for his contributions with the bat and ball, a very solid cricketer. Muppet of the day – Daisy, for performing his impression of a constipated ballerina running backwards, sideways and waving his hands madly in the air all while trying to catch a cricket ball.
A big thank you to all those who came down and supported the Nomads.
