Match report: Ripley 09/07/17

Once again the weather forecast was for wall to wall sunshine. Daisy won the toss and in true Nomadic style elected to field first.

Sparkie opened the bowling; it was tough going as Ripley’s opening pair were not going to give up their wickets lightly.

Sparkie was well supported by the Godfather and they both bowled six overs with Sparkie conceding 21 runs and the Godfather conceding 23 runs.

Next up was Assassin and Rahul, who despite their efforts including some heroic fielding from the latter, were unable to get a wicket.

Swiftly fielding the ball at point Rahul launched a missile at the non-striker's end which was caught by Assassin who promptly ran out their opener for 41.

Ripley's first two wickets fell by run-outs with Assassin taking out their number three batsman for 20 runs. Both Assassin and Rahul bowled eight overs each, conceding 38 and 31 respectively.

Meet bowled four overs, two maidens for 25 runs, while Genie bowled six overs for three wickets and 41 runs.

Meanwhile Naresh bowled two overs for two wickets and 11 runs. After 40 overs Ripley scored 196 runs and went into tea confident they had accumulated an eminently defendable total.

Following a great tea the Rabbi opened the batting with Smartie and were going well until the Rabbi edged a deviating ball to first slip who had a couple of attempts at catching the ball before eventually succeeding.

Smartie went on to score a brisk 63 before he was out caught behind and Naresh failed to trouble the scorers.

With Meet at the wicket, ably supported by Smartie and later Genie, the score was very rapidly on the ascendancy.

Ripley’s total was soon surpassed after only 24.4 overs with Meet posting an excellent unbeaten 104 with Genie supporting from the other end on 20 not out.

Without any doubt the man of the match is Meet for his fine bowling performance and excellent batting; well-done Meet.

Ripley were great hosts and it is always a pleasure to play them.

Special thanks to all those Nomads (Horny, Ice, Icicle and the Doc) who came along to show their support both during the game and after in the bar.

We now have four centurions this season: Naresh, Smartie, Genie and Meet. We've certainly been spoiled this season!
