It seemed that I had been on the phone for most of the week trying to get a team together for our return game against Egham Roses at NPL which was also Fizzy Pimms, and on Thursday evening during a committee meeting I announced that we only had 8 players, Horny and Morse stepped up to the plate and volunteered to play.
The game was on and on a very hot day I strolled out to the square with their captain and for the second week running we decided to play a 35 over game so that we weren’t in the sun for too long and it left more time to take advantage of the Fizzy Pimms. Once again I lost the toss and to my surprise Egham Roses decided to bat first and off we trundled to prepare for battle.
Mahesh opened the bowling with Satnav (Navdeep Singh, a new member) each bowling 7 overs, Mahesh captured 4 wickets for 29 runs and Satnav got 3 wickets for only 12 runs, a truly amazing opening partnership by our bowlers. Egham Roses were on the back foot right from the start with only 3 of their players achieving scores greater than 10. Egham Roses were bowled out for 79 runs in only 27 overs with outstanding contributions from Argy Bhaji who bowled 7 overs, 18 runs and two wickets and Toby McIntosh (NPL) bowled 6 overs for 14 runs for 1 wicket which was a brilliant catch at short mid-wicket by Daisy. Clint had another great day behind the stumps taking an outstanding one handed catch.
Following a much improved tea from NPL Tuffers and Daisy opened the batting and we were both a little surprised at the speed their 14 year old opening bowler achieved who managed to capture the wicket of Tuffers in the second over without troubling the scorer. L’tle Rich was promoted to the number 3 spot and he too was bowled for 4 runs by the little school boy. Toby McIntosh blasted a quick 36 before falling victim to some devious spin bowling. Daisy finished off the game with a 4 with Argy Bhaji at the other end having not faced a ball and complaining bitterly; Daisy finished on a solid 26 not out.
Thankfully the showers were now working and once we were all freshened we could get down to the serious business and enjoy the lavish picnic and Fizzy Pimms that Horny had gone to so much trouble to prepare for us all. Many supporters arrived and took good advantage and a thoroughly good evening was had by all.
A big thank you to Horny and Morse for playing, without whom the match would not have gone ahead. Another pat on the back for Horny for organising the Fizzy Pimms and picnic and to Jill and Dorita for helping out throughout the day.
Horny, I managed to pick my car up the following day at 7.30am, and I thought you were the early riser!
I have since spoken to Egham Roses who would like me to pass on their thanks for making them feel so welcome and providing the hospitality, it was much appreciated.
